Good afternoon parents,
This week in Cherry has been as busy as ever, but enjoyable and full of a range of different activities.
In literacy we finished our poem 'The Highway Man' and had a chance to add our own different ending to the poem, writing in the style of the author. This was not an easy task as it involved techniques such as similes, metaphors, repetition and personification but I was really impressed with the final outcomes.
In Numeracy, Year 6 spend the week looking at fractions and multiplication and Year 5 investigated fractions also, in particular fraction equivalence. We had a mini times tables quiz in Year 5 this morning and I was very pleased that everyone improved upon their scores from last week (and the children who scored a maximum 48 out of 48 did so again today!)
In PE we had rugby this week on the playground (in between the rain showers!) and the children worked on their passing and handling skills. We were fortunate to have a coach from an outside PE agency to help us with this session on Thursday - please ensure that the children come with a warm tracksuit on Thursday's, as the weather is turning colder gradually.
In Science, as you can see from the photos below, we looked at sweets!!! Not really just sweets, but the idea of classification keys and specific characteristics that make everything unique (whether they be sweets, birds or fish) The children worked in unfamiliar groups and completed the task this afternoon sensibly.
Have a great weekend
