Good afternoon parents, the end of another busy, busy week in Cherry Class!
In Literacy, we continued to look at the class poem 'The Highway Man'. Our lessons incorporated both art and writing skills (figurative language) as the children selected a stanza of their choice and represented the imagery (such as similes, metaphors, alliteration and repetition) into their oil pastel drawings. Finally, they added their own examples of figurative language to their artwork.
In Numeracy, Year 5 looked at multiplication and division by 10, 100 and 1000 including decimals. We took their understanding to a further level when we looked at reasoning and problem-solving activities. In addition to these tasks, we have been practising 'harder' times tables to our own songs, including the 7 and 8x tables. Year 6 have spent the week looking at fractions, in particular ordering, adding and subtracting, I know how well they have done as I have had a steady stream of Year 6's coming into the classroom throughout the week to show me their learning!
In Geography, we discussed rivers and how they share many similarities. The children produced a fact file about a river of their choice.
In Science we have been looking this week at living things and their habitats, in particular how classification keys can be used to clearly identify a specific animal. The class became experts today on fish, and how the share so many subtle similarities and differences.
From the pictures below you can clearly ascertain what we have 'been up to' this week in PE!!! We looked at balances in particular in gymnastics and the children worked sensibly on the apparatus.
Have a good weekend everyone, don't forget to complete home learning which is on Teams
