Week beginning 20th March

This week in Cherry Class, we have been continuing reading Cosmic and have now discovered that Florida's birthday is the day before the launch. We wrote diary entries using emotive language and fronted adverbials to indicate time. Later in the week, we developed our vocabulary by looking at synonyms and antonyms.

In Maths, Year 5 have been working on area and perimeter. They have been using their understanding of this to calculate the perimeter of different shapes - even compound shapes. In Year 6, we finished our topic of area and volume by finding the area of parallelograms and finding the volume of 3D shapes. We have now started to interpret data and statistics. This week, we have focused on interpreting line graphs (data monitored over time) and bar graphs (comparing collected data).

In our Art lessons, we have created our nebula pictures using a range of different techniques: sponges, splatters, scruffito and scumbling. We had some fantastic and creative pieces of art. During DT, we expanded our knowledge of mechanisms and began constructing our mechanisms for our final product. Next week, we will be creating our moving Mars Rover.

Next week:

On Friday, we will be celebrating Holi (Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love and Spring). Children are encouraged to come in bright clothes. There will be an opportunity to take part in a paint powder throwing event which you will need to sign consent for as the children will be getting messy!
