Our first week back after the two week Easter break has been full of learning! We have welcomed Ms Howard to Cherry Class - she will be teaching them this term.
Our topic for this term is: The Great, The Bold and The Brave
Through Art and Music we will be looking at the history of western civilisation beginning with the Greeks and the Romans. Their expanding empires helped to spread ideas about architecture, food, entertainment, literature, science, medicine and politics across the globe. As their empires ended, other cultures (such as the Vikings) rose to prominence, absorbing and passing on their own ideas and cultures – creating the world we know today.
To help us learn more about the Greeks and their influence on Britain today, we will be studying Myths in Literacy. This week, we focused on how Zeus came to power and the creation story according to Greek Mythology. The children have really engaged with this topic and look forward to learning more about the structure and description within Myths as well as deepening their knowledge on the Ancient Greek Civilisation.
Both Year 5 and 6 have been exploring shapes and angles this week. Year 5 have been focused on identifying the different types of angles and measuring them with a protractor; whereas, Year 6 have been focused on recognising where angles meet at a point and calculating missing angles using their knowledge of angles on a straight line and vertically opposite angles.
Times Tables Rockstars Champions!
The TTRS Champions who played for the most time over the Easter break was Charlie!
The TT Rockstars who played for the most days over the Easter break was Charlie!
Keep playing at home and hopefully next week, Cherry can take the Class Champion Trophy. Remember it is a group effort.
In History, we have started learning about who the Vikings were and the way their settlements ran. Next week, the children will have the opportunity to present what they have learnt about the Vikings and make comparisons between the Greek civilisation and the Viking settlements.
In Science, we have been researching Greek Scientists and learning how their contributions are still used 3000 years after they were discovered!
Thank you for your contributions today and for bringing the school to life with your bright colours to help raise money for Autism Awareness.
