This week in Cedar Class we have been finding out about the demon headteacher in our focus text. We now know he is hypnotising the children and teachers. We have been learning about instructional text by looking at the features. We have been writing summaries to understand the sequence of the story so far and to really understand the characters and their relationship. We have also looked at how authors use language to create tension. In reading, we are looking at how to infer information and to justify this using the text as evidence.
In maths, Year 5 have been using their times table knowledge to multiply a fraction by an integer and to find fractions of amounts. Year 6 have continued to learn about algebra. They have been learning strategies to find out what letters represent in an equation and using this knowledge to solve problems.
We have been learning about online bullying and how to stay safe in PSHE. We looked at scenarios and discussed whether they were acceptable or not. In RE, we explored Islamic art, and created some of our own patterns.
In science, we continued with electricity and explored circuits with 'What if' questions to consolidate our understanding of how components function.
Some of the children went to the O2 as part of the Young Voices. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend. It is such an amazing experience for them and they were all fantastic.
TT Rockstars
Next Friday (3.2.23) is Number Day. There will be a TT Rockstars competition which the children can take part in, both at home and at school. Will your child be a TT Rockstar champion?
PE Kits
Please ensure your child is in the correct PE kit, not coloured tracksuits. They should be wearing black leggings/shorts and their team colour top. Please see this week's newsletter for guidance.
Have a lovely weekend.
