In literacy this week we have started to read Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. It is about a boy called Liam who pretends to be his dad and enters a space competition. It is a humorous book, and we are finding it funny. We have written a diary entry and predicted what the story might be about by reading the blurb. We have looked at inverted commas and written dialogue using them.
In maths, Year 5 have continued to solve problems involving statistics. Year 6 have been learning about decimals, fractions and percentages and their equivalence. We have used our reasoning skills to solve problems.
Our topic this term is Space Explorers. It is science based topic. We have been researching the solar system, sharing our knowledge and are excited to explore more. We have used oil pastels to explore texture and colour and used techniques to create images of planets.
We visited the mosque on Tuesday afternoon. The children were amazing. They knew so much knowledge from our learning last term. They were very respectful in the mosque. They asked pertinent questions and made me feel proud.
In PE we are learning dance and badminton.
Next week the Year 6 will be having a SATs practice week. This will take place every morning between 9.00 - 10.30 depending on the paper and how long the paper is. This will allow the children to be prepared for the SATs in May, so they know what to expect and will give us an opportunity to work on the weaker knowledge areas of the curriculum.
Have a lovely weekend.
