What a busy week!
In Literacy, we have planned and written a cold write. The focus was letter writing. We had to write a letter to Mrs Dhanecha asking her to change something in school. Some children wanted longer breaks, some wanted to have McDonalds for lunch on Fridays. Some wanted the school day to start later. The children had to justify their suggestions and use persuasive language to convince Mrs Dhanecha to make the changes. This has linked to our text The Demon Headmaster, which we will start next Monday.
In Maths, Year 5 have been learning how to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers. They have to remember to use 0 as a place holder and remember which columns each digit should be in. Year 6 have been learning about scale factors, and how shapes have been enlarged according to the scale factor. They have been solving problems using fluency and reasoning.
In RE we have been looking at the question 'What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?'. We started off with a retrieval practice of Islam to see what we already know. We used Now Press Play to interact with a story based on the Five Pillars of Islam as a way in to continue our understanding of the Islamic faith.
In PSHE, we are beginning to look at the risks of alcohol. We discussed why adults might choose to drink alcohol, and why they may not. We also discussed the effects of alcohol on our bodies and behaviour.
On Tuesday we had the opportunity to dress up as rock stars. We had a workshop and an assembly led by the company Rock Kidz. The children enjoyed watching some staff getting involved too.
We are really trying to encourage all children to use TT Rockstars, so please encourage your child to spend 15 minutes a day on it to improve their times tables knowledge. Leaderboards will be checked and champions rewarded in Monday's assembly.
Please make sure your child has the correct P.E. kit.
Can your child bring a water bottle in every day please?
Football should not be played in the playground before and after school due to younger children and parents being there - thank you.
Home learning will now be reading daily, and using our apps: TT Rockstars, EdShed, Fiction Express and Oxford Owls. These can be accessed by all devices and the children have their log in details. There may be times where additional home learning will be sent home to support current learning or prepare Year 6 for their SATs.
We had our class assembly today. The children chose what they wanted to share. Thank you for all of your support.
Mrs Rackley
