What a busy week!
As the World Cup kicks off, some of the children are really excited and we are keeping a chart of all of the games and scores. The children are also interested in where in the world the countries are located.
In literacy this week we have looked at the poem The Raven. We have compared it to The Highway Man, and have looked at the language used to make the comparisons. We have linked literacy to ICT and have been exploring iMovie. We used this app to record our performance of poetry.
In maths, Year 5 have been learning how to convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and compared fractions with different denominators.
Year 6 have been learning how to divide a fraction by a whole number and solve problems involving dividing fractions. We also did a weekly arithmetic assessment.
In Science this week we looked at botanical drawings, linked to art, and how these can support classification. So, we went outside to look at the trees and plants and made observations of the leaves. We then created classification keys about leaves.
In RE we have continued to look at Christianity exploring values. We read The Good Samaritan and discussed what this means.
In PSHE we have been looking at healthy lifestyles, focussing on: diet, exercise, relaxation and dental hygiene. We have planned how we can improve our own lifestyles.
In topic, we have been exploring the River Medway and discovering the human features of a river. We did some research and found out why there was settlement by the river hundreds of years ago and that now the river is used mostly for leisure.
Alvin Shaw came in to give a talk about the Magistrates system and courts to our Year 6. The children gained a lot of knowledge and asked some good questions.
We ended the week by getting into the festive spirit and walked down to Fremlin Walk to sing Christmas carols and songs to raise money for Demelza.
Next week, on Friday, we are going for a walk along the river. This will be linked to literacy, DT and ICT. We will be looking at the bridges and will use this to design a new bridge for the river Medway. If any parents would like to accompany us, it would be really appreciated.
Have a lovely weekend.
