21.10.22

What a busy and amazing week and term we have had. We are all settled into routines and expectations. We have been building up our resilience by starting a new year and finding out the expectations in the curriculum.

In Literacy this week, we completed our Hot Write stories and edited them. We finished the week off by looking at synonyms and antonyms and how we can use synonyms to improve our writing. Some children are beginning to use new synonyms in their topic writing.

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning about factors and multiples and then looking at common multiples and factors. They have been using this knowledge to explore problem solving. They have been using STEM sentences to respond to questions...

Year 6 have been learning the strategies of long division. For some, this has been fairly straightforward. For most children it's proven to be a bit challenging. We have spent a few days on this to build up confidence, and most children got it by the end of the week. I can't stress enough how important it is for children to know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12. We finished the week off by playing a long division game and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000.

We completed our topic learning by looking at Anglo-Saxons and their settlement and it was great to see some of this at The British Museum on Wednesday. We also researched artists and art through certain periods in time.

We had a great time at The British Museum on Wednesday. We were fascinated by the Mummies, the tombs, the hieroglyphics. There was so much to see! Thank you to our parent helpers who were able to come with us.

Home learning will mostly be set on Teams. Year 6 have a paper copy of long multiplication and division to do so please make sure you do it. If you do not know your password for Teams, please let me know so I can get it reset. ALL children should be accessing Teams and doing their home learning.

Have a lovely half term break. Thank you for all of your support. I look forward to seeing you all on the 1.11.22.
